Research On The Green Ribbon Schools Of American Elementary And Secondary Schools

With the coming of the21st century, global energy crisis has intensified. At the same time, the massive investment in educational resources has been in trouble. Increasingly apparent lack of energy and environmental issues are also Americans’ real problems. As a result, green schools with high energy efficiency and few environmental pollution are gradually coming into view.The United States is one of the earliest countries in the world which began environmental education, with perfect legislation system, reward system and adequate financial resources. The Green Ribbon Schools’is led, made and managed by the Federal Ministry of education. The green schools are nominated by the State Governments within the State. The schools should accord with three standards of ecological benefit, environmental quality and environmental education concept. As soon as the plan is put forward, the state governments and organizations support it strongly. The plan has achieved good results:improve the infrastructure of primary and secondary schools, ensure the safety and convenience of campus life, develop a healthy lifestyle and environmental concept, enhance the competitiveness of education as well as promote the all-round development of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. However,’Green Ribbon Schools’ program has also many problems, such as:the lack of national financial support and security, resource distribution decentralization power, and lack of control, etc. This author attempts to do a systematic research and introduction of’Green Ribbon Schools’. Understanding its background, specific implementation process, the results and short comings, the author combines the rich development experience and the actual situation in China, to provide reference and enlightenment of "Green School" in our country.
