This thesis intends to design a grammar teaching mode on clause under the guidance of Chomsky’s Minimalist Program.Grammar teaching is an important part of English teaching. And English teachers have been trying to find a more suitable teaching mode to make grammar rules more accessible to learners, for they are enormous and unsystematic. Besides, from the interviews with some English teachers and students, English teachers are not achieving the ideal effect of teaching clause and students find clause difficult to comprehend. Therefore, this thesis comes up with a simplified approach to clause, under the guidance of Chomsky’s Minimalist Program, and designs a teaching mode, based on Diane Larsen-Freeman’s three-dimensional teaching method, so that the simplified approach could be delivered to the students. This thesis aims at testifying the feasibility of this simplified approach on clause and the acceptance of the teaching design and seeing whether it has any enlightening significance on grammar teaching design. The author worked as an intern teacher in Yangcun No.1Middle School for ten weeks. The target class is16of grade1, with42students. By interviewing with six English teachers of this school, the author surveyed their teaching methods on clause and the problems existing among the students. After analyzing the background information, the teaching was carried out. A mixed method of self reflection, interview, and questionnaire was used to testify the objectives of the research. This thesis manifests that the simplified approach is feasible, easy, simple and helpful to solve clausal problems. The grammar teaching designed from the dimensions of form, meaning, and use makes the teaching structure clear and well organized and it is beneficial to the understanding of the grammar. The aims of this thesis are tested positive. This research also has promising implications for grammar teaching. For example, when teaching grammar, teachers should simplify the grammar to make it more accessible to learners. When planning grammar lessons, teachers should consider three perspectives:form, meaning, and use, and design authentic exercises to consolidate the knowledge.
