With the fact that the concepts such as “ecology”,“harmony” and “health” havedeeply rooted among people, ecology has already exceeded the biological category andpermeated many fields. At the beginning of the20thcentury, classroom ecology wasdeveloped into an independent subject which had its own systematized theory,its originalviewpoints and methods providing important theoretical foundation for our currenteducation and curriculum reform. Ecological classroom is the micro level of educationalecology. Optimizing the ecological classroom environment attaches much importance tothe basic elements of classroom teaching and their inter-relationship and has a guidingsense in balancing and developing the micro classroom eco-system.From the perspective of ecology, this study is an empirical study about the teachingenvironment of English ecological classroom in senior high school. It thoroughly discussesEnglish classroom from many different angles, revealing the unbalanced phenomena. Aftermaking it clear that classroom environment is made up of natural environment, socialenvironment and life ecological elements, it spares no effort to explore the way inoptimizing the classroom ecological environment, with the guidance of ecologicalprinciples. It aims at establishing a democratic, equal and harmonious ecological classroom.Both teachers and students can benefit a lot from it and gain all-round development, thusrealizing the value of life. Based on the ideas of ecology, this study applies researchmethodologies comprehensively, such as literature review, questionnaire and interview.The author’s practical experience and ecological theories are combined to penetrate intoEnglish classroom and put forward the strategies and methods of constructing ecologicalclassroom systematically. This study, to some extent, makes the micro ecological education theory more practical and the result of the study can provide the theoretic guidance andtechnical support for other researchers’ further studies. Meanwhile, it is helpful for Englishteachers to change their old ideas and re-consider current education model to improve theefficiency of English classroom teaching.
