Higher education for Deaf is an important part of Higher education for disabled. According to the data of The national association of disabled people in2010, among all those disabled college students enrolled, Deaf ones are in the neighborhood of20%.With the development of Higher education for Deaf, there are more and more problems in Higher education for Deaf, for instance, the forms of the university entrance exam are single, the majors for the Deaf are narrow, the employment rate of Deaf college students is very low. Also, there are many studies which indicate, Deaf college students have many problems in the aspect of study, human communication and so on. But, what are the true colors of the Deaf college students? What is the experience of them? The qualitative research is adopted in this paper. By depth interviewing the Deaf college students and their friends, the writer wants to demonstrate the experience of Deaf college students in classroom learning, after-class study, human communication, career planning and self-identification.From the research, most deaf college students lack of clear plans before they go to college, they want to learn useful knowledge and skills in the college, meanwhile, they feel anxious about their future. Some students think it is not useful to go to the college, but, some students think the colleges teach them how to think and live, enhance their contracts with society, and also help them to self-grow. In the aspect of course learning, the majors for them are very limited, there are too many professional courses and too little optional courses, the teaching method is very single, the support service is very backward, and the learning attitude of Deaf students is a little negative, they like solving problem by themselves or seeking the help of their classmates. In the aspect of after-class study, there is gender difference in reading, boys prefer nonfiction articles and biography, while girls prefer Literature and Enews. Deaf college students seldom attend to academic lectures, and they do quite well in sports and arts, but not in the club activities. In the aspect of human communication, Deaf students like to build relationships with each other by acquaintances, they do not like to keep company with teachers, during the communication of Deaf and hearing people, both of them feel pressure. The Deaf students cannot have a stable relationship with hearing people. In the aspect of career planning and self-identification, most Deaf students lack of clear career plannings, their listening limitations make them give up their plans and listen to their parents and teachers. In a word, Deaf college students are at a disadvantage in the higher education. In order to fully understand Deaf college students, this study investigates their language, thought, human communication, models and cultural identity from the vision of Deaf culture. From the investigation, sign language of Deaf college students has the characters of intuitive and simplicity, which influence the written language of them. Many students have cognitive deficits, but it is not inborn, and the difference of cognitive between Deaf and hearing people is not significant. Intuitive and repetitiveness are the mainly characters of human communication for Deaf students, it makes them look simple and stupid. The model identity of them is influenced by the hearing society, their models usually are those who study hard on oral, and make great contributions to society. Even influenced by the hearing society, Deaf students still like to use sign language and join the Deaf Communities.Sign language is a limited code, which determines it cannot be school knowledge. Return to the mainstream movement made oral teaching legal and the sign language teaching be history. Since then, the deaf teachers are rarely seen in special schools. The retreat of deaf teachers makes school become a place where reproduce hearing culture. The control of education by hearing people makes deaf children have no choice but accepting hearing culture. Because of the listening limitations, Deaf students can hardly be successful in the education. Those who attend the college entrance examination usually fail, those who attend special college entrance examination usually study incomplete knowledge, and are not as good as hearing college students. Even if they are at a disadvantage in education, they cannot deny hearing culture and stay in their own little world. It makes Deaf education face a dilemma. in the end, Based on the analysis and comparison, this paper puts forward such tactics adjustment of Higher education for Deaf, such as adjusting the structure of Higher education for Deaf, improving classroom teaching and the support services, expanding the Deaf culture.
