Postgraduate education is charged with heavy responsibilities for cultivatinghigh-level innovative talents. With the Plan2011carried out, Attentions should be paid tothe mechanisms of synergetic innovation on the level of postgraduates’ cultivating. In thecontext of striving to build the World-Class Universities, exploring how to promoteinnovation and reform of the postgraduates’ cultivating model and improve the quality ofpostgraduate education has becomes an important topic.The postgraduate education in American plays a significant role in the knowledgeinnovation and high-end talents cultivating. In order to create more competitive graduates,universities, corporations, government, research institutions and other organizations inAmerican cooperate on postgraduates’ cultivating actively, which has been deepenedconstantly. So far, the framework of postgraduates’ synergetic cultivating has been build,which also promotes the synergetic innovation to be a clear tendency towards developmentand reform in postgraduate education. As the most prestigious university in American, MIThas explored diversified synergetic cultivating models during its practices in thepostgraduate education from1960s. Based on collaborative training theory, This paperselects MIT as the research object, using the research methods which combining literatureresearch, comparison research and case study, and the cultivating model will be theimportant starting point. Focusing on analyzing the types, causes, conditions andexperience of postgraduates’ synergetic cultivating model of MIT, this paper will bebeneficial to the reform of postgraduate education in our country.Based on the detailed research, this paper suggest that MIT has explored diversifiedsynergetic cultivating models varying from cross-disciplinary cultivate,university-corporation, university-research institution to university-university. The causesof postgraduates’ synergetic cultivating model of MIT come from social needs, Pragmatisttradition and the need of high-quality resources in postgraduate education. During thepractice, interdisciplinary platforms, excellent teachers, extensive industrial linkages and perfect cooperative cultivating mechanisms provide important guarantees to thepostgraduates’ synergetic cultivating model of MIT. We can learn experience from MIT’practice effectively, such as promoting the reform and development of postgraduates’synergetic cultivating models discriminatively, building synergetic cultivating platformsbased on the projects, forming more perfect cooperative cultivating mechanisms, etc, whichwill help us to improve the quality of postgraduate education and establish the World-ClassUniversities.
