With the enhancement of multimedia technology,3D models and its animations have beenintroduced to the area of high school biology teaching. Nowadays, the3D models andanimations used in this area have the problem of resource shortage and practicality weakness, therefore a set of new, high quality3D models and animations which fit the requirement of newcurriculum reformation are needed urgently.Considering the application status and problems within the use of3D models andanimations in high school biology teaching, this essay will use the application in the instructiondesign “The Basic Structure of Cells” as an example to explore its usage in high school biologyteaching. For software selection, I selected Corel Motion Studio3D which can be easily used tosimplify the development and use of curriculum resources, considering the week softwarefoundation of high school biology teachers. This essay is directed by Cognitive Load Theory, Constructivist Learning Theory, EducationCommunication Theory and “Cone of Experience” Theory is written regarding perspectives ofreducing external cognitive load, increasing related cognitive load and helping students withmeaning construction. It also integrates the characteristic and actual demand of high schoolbiology education to analysis issues that need attention in3D model and its animation andinstruction design. By referencing existing research results from other researchers, this essay isto conclude a systematic set of principles to guide the design of3D model and animation, including scientific and effectiveness principle, necessity principle, multi information channelstimulation principle, contigeous principle, development principle, moderate speed principle andindividual difference consideration principle. The aim of this essay is to provide significancesupport for further application of3D modeling and animation making in high school biologyteaching.3D models and animations of organelle and nucleus are made based on designingprinciples summarized and teaching characteristics in “The basic structure of cells”. In order tomaximize the supporting function of3D models and animations in teaching activities, the author has also conducted corresponding instruction designs. In the last, the author used designed3Dmodels and animations in real teaching practice, and received positive feedbacks from teachersand students, which showed initial evidence of successful in education assistance.
