The examination system of Britain has a long history and ancient tradition, andits variety and structure are complete. The General Certificate of Education AdvancedLevel is a qualification offered by the educational institutions in Britain. It is generallyknown as the A Level examinations, which is the examination students take to enterUniversities in Britain, this examination is similar to the Chinese Higher SchoolCertificate. In Britain, the A Level examination has been constantly evolving foralmost60years, various changes have been implemented to improve theexamination for students throughout those years. In China, we have been exploringthe systems of the A Level exam as this exam is well recognized in many wellestablished Universities across the world. Therefore by studying the regulations ofthis examination, it can assist in the advancement of China’s History Higher SchoolCertificate’s augmentation.In this paper we will be studying the most recent version of the A Levelexamination on History and Education subjects, by analyzing the curriculum and theinternationally benchmarked qualifications assessed by AQA, we will also furtherevaluate the A Level examinations concepts, their method of setting up questionsand in which area to examine students on.This paper will be composed in two parts, the first introductory section will beexemplifying the origin and purpose of this research, providing a summary of themethod of research and pathways to innovations. The main essay will be separatedinto four parts. The first part will be introducing the general English education systemand the A Level grading system; the second part will be discussing on the history ofthe A Level examination, including questionnaires, area of interest, method ofoperation, the objectives of the examination; the third part will be demonstratinganalyzations of the A Level past papers; the fourth part will be a collection ofcharacteristics on the A LevelHistory exam, including both ratings from outsideschool and inside school (the latter is more difficult), using a higher standard ofsubjective test questions in the exam, testing students on concepts, judgments and their ability to solve problems. Furthermore, it will also incorporate the revelation ofthe A Level History course on the Chinese Higher School Certificate History exam.In conclusion, by evaluating the evolution of the History examination, not onlywe have to in corporate the best features of the Chinese Higher school certificateexamination system, but also to absorb the advanced examination regimes ofdifferent countries around the world. From the theory of the A Level historyexamination, we should accumulate the hierarchical of questioning and the differentdegrees of their grading system as this will strengthen the students’ exanimationabilities.
