Chinese characters are very important to Chinese, just like the materials to a building. Teaching the Chinese characters is the basis of Chinese language teaching. It has been a long time that researchers are trying to find a most scientific and most effective way to the teaching of Chinese character. Especially for recent years, the promotion and development of Chinese in minority areas is becoming a hot topic. However, it is not easy to find a thesis or a research about it. Therefore, it is urgent to solve the problems of how to make students in national regions to learn Chinese characters in a simple and easy way, which also can provide the theories and practice basis for research of Chinese teaching in minorities. The author will investigate and analyze the literacy teaching of low grade in Yanji Korean Primary School.Yanji City is the capital of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, and is also one of the areas that has great achievements of Chinese teaching in the national minority region. There are seven Korean Primary schools in Yanji. There are 109 Chinese teachers and 8.165 students. Chinese is a very important subject for Korean primary students. Yanji City has a good language environment, which is a big advantage for students in low grades. At the same time, there are many excellent teachers in Yanji City Korean Primary School. The Chinese ’teachers have rich subject professional knowledge, a high level of Chinese language and own knowledge of second language acquisition, which make them learn Chinese in a more advantageous position. We know that the content of Chinese literacy in Yanji City Korean Primary School is very rich through investigation. Based on the teaching content in curriculum and teaching materials, the Chinese teachers also increase the learning of words that students often meet in their daily lives so that they can master and apply Chinese faster. In the face of such a huge amount of literacy, the Chinese teachers in Yanji City Korean Primary School don’t just use a single teaching method, but use different ways, such as using the origin, looking at the pictures, riddles and other ways separately. What’s more, the school attaches great importance to the learning of Chinese. In view of Chinese literacy, they conduct activities like dictation contest, performance show, building the corner of book. These activitiesmake a great difference for students. They can make simple conversations, read stories with pictures and write sentences according to pictures.However, students will face many different problems in the process of literacy. These include different meanings of a word, homophone and so on. Because the pupils have poor abilities of abstract thinking and eliminating interference. And the pronunciation and intonation between Korean and Chinese languages is different, which may influence the standard of Chinese pronunciation. At the same time, the use of dictionaries is required in the curriculum. But the students in low grade can’t use them skillfully, which leads to the low rate of dictionary using.Based on the above problems, the author suggest that the Yanji City Korean Primary School should strengthen the exchange and study with Chinese schools. And students should be encouraged to communicate with Chinese. They should practice more in their daily lives. Teachers are also suggested that they should let students make sentences to discriminate some words. Students should cultivate the habit of using dictionaries so as to improve the effect of literacy teaching.
