Literacy teaching is the starting of Chinese teaching in primary school, while handwriting teaching is an integral part of literacy teaching. For the low grade pupils in the primary school, literacy teaching can not only cultivate the students’thinking ability, but also can mold character, develop individuality and quality. Improving the ability to read and write can lay a solid foundation for the pupils to learn other subjects.Yanji Jinxue Primary School is a brand school which has a long history of 60 years. This school’s educational philosophy is to lay a lifelong development foundation for every child, and is strive to be a top class school in Jinlin province with the idea of all-quality advancement and harmonious development. The research objects of this thesis are the low grades pupils in Yanji Jinxue Primary School. Through the methods of questionnaire survey and interview to investigate the related teachers and students, I have know the current situation of Chinese literacy and handwriting teaching in the low grades of Yanji Jinxue Primary School, and I use scientific method to sort out and analyze the survey data. The investigation discovered that the content of Chinese literacy and handwriting teaching in the low grades of Yanji Jinxue Primary School is very rich. The Chinese teachers also increase the learning of words that students often meet in their daily lives so that they can master and apply Chinese faster. With the help of the teachers,1 deeply understand the present situation of teacher’s teaching and student’s studying. Although the lower grade students have made significant effect through literacy teaching, but still exist some problems. According to the problems of the students, this paper analyzes the reason of the current situation and put forward suggestions for improvement.There are five chapters in this thesis.The first chapter is introduction to show this research’s objective and significance, the present research situation at home and abroad, the scope and method and the definitions of the key words. The second chapter introduces the course criteria of Chinese language requirements and suggestions of how to teach students to read and write. The third chapter analyses the Chinese literacy situation of the low grades in Yanji Jinxue Primary School. After calculations, I find that the teaching aim of lower grades Chinese literacy of Yanji Jinxue Primary School is very clear. There are varied methods of how to read, including character origin literacy, look-and-read method, children’s song literacy and game literacy. I find some problems.The similar characters and synonym are easily confused. The heteronym characters and polysemic characters are difficult to understand. The fourth chapter analyses the handwriting teaching situation of the low grades in Yanji Jinxue Primary School which I find the purpose is very clear and the handwriting is standard. I also find it inadequate, such as the students are not interest in handwriting,handwriting posture is not correct and handwriting habits need to be developed, etc. The fifth chapter gives reasonable suggestions of Chinese literacy and handwriting teaching in the low grades of Yanji Jinxue Primary School.Based on the above problems, the author suggest that the teachers should cultivate students the habit of learning words in their daily lives, train the students’ ability to write words and encourage students to carry out a variety of literacy activities. In terms of handwriting teaching, the teachers should lay emphasis on cultivating the students’ interest in handwriting and help them form a good handwriting habit and keep correct handwriting posture, etc. Through the study of this paper, this research is helpful for the teachers to read and write teaching have more macro grasp and is helpful to enrich the present research of Chinese literacy teaching and handwriting teaching of the low grades and perfect to read and write teaching theory. This research proposes corresponding suggestions to Yanji Jinxue Primary School for Chinese literacy and handwriting teaching.
