Classroom teaching language is the main means and tools to impart knowledge, complete the teaching task. In the teaching process, activities between teachers and students are mainly completed through the exchange of language. Although in some of the new classroom, because of the different teaching ideas and teaching equipment, teaching methods will produce corresponding change. But language activity is essential, and it plays an important role in the teaching effect. Teaching language skills is an important reflection of teachers’ comprehensive quality. Therefore, understanding the situation of training students in normal colleges and universities, developing research on the cultivation of normal students’ language skills in geography teaching are particularly important and urgent.The current research on geography teaching language, mainly focused on teaching language features or basic requirements, style, art, existing problems, improvement strategies etc. The main research object is usually in-service high school geography teachers, the research on geography teaching language skill training for normal school students is relatively few. In view of this, under the direction of multiple intelligences theory, rhetoric theory, language acquisition theory and information dissemination theory, this paper mainly taking literature analysis, questionnaire investigation, experience summary, interview, statistical analysis and other methods, treats the students of geographical science major in Henan University as the research object. Investigating and analyzing the present situation of geography normal students’ teaching language skills, trying to obtain the true level of normal students’ current geography teaching language skills, find out the main existed problems and influence factors, finally put forward the optimization strategy training normal students′ geography teaching language skills.Through analyze a lot of the present literature about the study of geography teaching language, combine with research needs, the connotation of teaching language skills were discussed, and setting its classification as teaching basic language skills and special language skills. Among them, the special language skills including import language, teaching language, transitional language, language to ask questions, strain language and conclusion language skills, and summary its use of techniques. Combine with geography teaching language skills’ use of techniques, according to the different learning and educational practice experience of normal college graduates and non graduates of geography, respectively from two angles on the teaching language’ cognition and application status of the normal school students of geography to design questionnaires. The main conclusions of this study are as follows:(1) the status on cognition and application of students’ geography teaching language skills is not optimistic, there exist the following problems: ①graduates: the use of geography teaching skills still exist some deficiencies, lack of attention and reflection on geography teaching language; ②non-graduates: attention degree to geography teaching language skills is not enough; the understanding of geography teaching language skills’ requirements is not comprehensive; their cognition mainly comes from their own subjective imagination, lack of practical experience; cognition to the influence of the development of students’ intelligence, emotion and language which brought by geography teaching language problems is not reach the designated position; ignore the cultivation of geography teaching language skills; ③training areas: strength of school culture is not enough; the current curriculum exerts the general effect; quite a few students look forward to receive more training and guidance.(2) according to the survey, this article analyzes the causes of the problem from three aspects of normal students, University, the external environment of teaching, finally, on the basis of the above three aspects, put forward some countermeasures to improve the students’ geography teaching language skills: ①normal students: develop good psychological quality, overcome the psychological barrier of language expression; continue to accumulate, increasing the knowledge of literacy; strengthen ideological attention and reflection. ②Universities: adjust the training mode, enhance the training pertinence, diversify training mode, according to students’ needs arrange the practice time; carry out various activities, training geography teaching language skills; set up related courses, strict assessment criteria; college teachers actively play language role model, and provide direction and assistance to normal students’ independent training of geography teaching language. ③external teaching environment: abandon the constraints of traditional cultural values, inherit and innovate its essence; promote good language environment, play a positive effect of network buzzwords.This paper provides some reference program for the training of normal students’ geography teaching language skills, also enriches the theoretical studies about optimizing the geography teaching language skills in a certain extent.
