Research On Competencies Of Social Worker

As a necessary ability of social workers’ work, in western countries where social work developed more mature,the measure and research for the competencies of social worker has been more mature.The competencies of social worker is that social workers will be able to make their own ideas,knowledge, methods, skills applied to the practical social work service in order to achive the goal of social work service. It includes organization and design of services provided, the ability to deal with irregular, also included traits in the work to handle the relationship between colleagues, superiors,director, etc. The researchers hope that by survey of the competencies of current social workers in Beijing, we can find the status quo of social worker’s competence in Beijing area, as the same time,can provide reference material for the social work of talents cultivation, the specialization and professionalization of social work development.This study adopts the method of combining quantitative and qualitative. Due to the current domestic having no similar study, the researcher’s first mission is to build the measurement system of social workers’ competencies. Similar studies for western countries, and remarkable achievements,coupled with professional social work itself are introduced from abroad, so the researchers refer to the American association of social work education of social work undergraduate students ten core competency requirements for construction of the index system of the present study.Finally, the researcher analyzed the questionnaire, and concluded that the current situation of social worker competencies in Beijing. Social workers have very good communication skills, can show higher professional in work and have professional concept and professional values. But their level of professional theory are in a low condition, and their professional research ability is insufficient. Due to the influence of environmental factors, social worker’s ability can not get to play a lot of professional behavior. And their professional working mode is restricted. Government purchasing social work service makes social worker " involuntarily".
