The Study On Professional Identity Of The Chengdu Professional Social Workers

With China’s rapid economic development and the speedy transformation of our society, a growing number of social problems and conflicts have emerged out, accompanied by the propose of "small government, big society" social management concept,as well as the joint efforts of the government and professional colleges, our social work career has a rapid leap-forward development in general. The social work is a profession and occupation of helping others, no professional helping practice cannot be called social work, the professional social workers working hard in practice plays an irreplaceable role in social work career development. In the good background of the strong humanitarian atmosphere formed after wen chuan earthquake and social work shows it’s unique professional ability in the earthquake, social work development in cheng du also presents a vigorous sight,social work professional organizations or social service organization is one of the indispensable backbone in the development, as an important component of the organization,the social workers’ professional identity status has a direct relationship to the specialty of professional services and public awareness as well as evaluation to the social work,also has great influences to the professional development and localization of the social work.Using the qualitative research methods, and with eight professional social workers from cheng du.This study focus on the course of their work, describe their career choice motivation, working conditions and job satisfaction, discover their Psychological change process from career cognitive to career feeling to career expectation, forming professional identity from the value identity, ability identity, emotion identity, continuous recognition and input identity, and get the conclusions that Chengdu’s professional social workers have high-level value identity and continuous recognition,have mid-light ability identity and input identity,but emotion identity is low. From above description and combine with William James’ Self Theory, the author analysis professional identity from professional-spirit-self, professional-social-self, professional-material-me. Finally, according to the profession-society-personnel logic, the author discuss the influence factors of the career identity, offer proposals from profession、institution and society to enhance the professional identity of social work practitioners: Firstly, social work self-criticism and reflection, with qualified service to win initiative and popular approval; the second is strengthening the administrative system guarantee; the third is strengthening social propaganda and improve the social awareness...
