Study On The Social Mobility Of Muslim Women

With the ceaseless deepening of reform and opening up, the desire of Chinese to seek development is stronger and stronger and a large number of "migrant workers" swarm into large and medium size cities. In the migrant tide, the migrant women, especially migrant Muslim women are vulnerable groups undoubtedly. They have to confront the problems which the women of main nationality confront at work, such as the household registration system, the differences of regional culture, the limits of professions, worry of personal security and so on. What’s more, these Muslim women have to confront the problems of acculturation and behavior adaptation in different religion. So we can say they are the vulnerable part in vulnerable groups.The thesis researches the problems of social integration of migrant Muslim women in Lanzhou. By the methods of interview, participant observation and referring literatures, I have got the firsthand information of Muslim women and weighed the situation of social integration of migrant Muslim women in Lanzhou in three dimensions, including economic integration, acculturation and behavior adaptation. I discovered a lot of problems:their employment levels are low, employment channels are narrow, and Social Welfare and Social Security are absent. Besides, the working and dwelling conditions of them are abominable, they can’t conduct religious activities, wear the national costume and eat the legal food. In marriage, they often get married at an early age or illegally. The thoughts of "value the male child only" are deep-rooted. Furthermore, the interpersonal interaction of Muslim women is unitary so that lack of social support. Because of their low cultural quality, they can’t educate their children well.A lot of reasons cause these current situations. The institutional factors are social security system and educational system which are based on the urban and rural household registration system. The individual factors are sexual distinction, degree of education and religion. In addition, the social factors are the lack of public policy and communal facilities, the delay of social administration and the baneful influence of terrorist recently.Finally,I put forward three parts of suggestions. First, we should promote the personal abilities of social integration of Muslim women. Second, the ability to accept of city should be enhanced. The last one is to accelerate the development of minority nationality regions.
