| Teacher educators in college and universities is the dominant power of the teacher education,whose quality condition has immediate impact on the quality of educational curriculum and thecultivation level of normal university students. Seen through current conditions of the teachereducators in colleges and universities, two major problems are the most prominent, that is, weakcompetency and growth confusion. According to the research,76.1percents of the teachereducators in college and universities are facing such problems as vague cognition of self-guidingstructure and ambiguous role orientation, etc. From the perspective of teachers’ self-directeddevelopment,85.2percents of the teacher educators in college and universities eagerly hope toenhance their competency by training or self-directed development. However, what bothers theteacher educators in college and universities is the lack of explicit guiding criteria of what basedo they realize their self-directed development and self enhancement. Many activities of theteacher educators in college and universities are acting on assumptions in a disordered way,which makes them get half the result with twice the effort. Therefore, more efforts should beurgently paid in improving the competency of teacher educators in college and universities andstudying its characteristics.Competency characteristics refers to the the combination of implicit and explicit personalcondition and behavior characteristics which can produce excellent performance. It includesknowledge, behavior skill, moral values, self-concept, personal traits and motivations, etc. Basedon the analyses of operating post of the teacher educators in college and universities, this paperformulates “Elementary Scale of The Competency Characteristics of The Teacher Educators inCollege and Universities†by employing literature analysis and teaching faculty focus interview.On this basis, this paper has obtained the competency characteristics elements of the teachereducators in college and universities by interviewing their real activities.Finally, through theexploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis constructed a five-dimension model including educational concepts, knowledge hierarchy, teaching and scientific research ability,personal traits and professional development.The main aim of the competency characteristics model of the teacher educators in collegeand universities is to enhance the competency of the teacher educators in college and universities,whose foundation is their self-directed development. In considering the basis for the constructionof the teacher educators in college and universities, this paper put forward the optional generatedpath of the competency characteristics of the teacher educators in college and universities, whichgives priority to personal independent promotion and contains such five dimensions as setting upthe modern educational concepts, improving their own knowledge hierarchy, promoting teachingand scientific research ability, developing goodly personal traits and raising the level ofprofessional development. At the meantime, this paper provides external guarantee for thegeneration of the competency characteristics of the teacher educators in college and universitieson the level of government funding and the strengthen of the institutional improvement insidecolleges and universities. |
