Social action theory, social system theory and social evolution theory formed thetheory system of structural functionalism of Talcott Parsons. Connect the Parsons’structural functionalism with moral education and using this theoretical system toanalyzes the problem of moral education, we can learn it provides a new kind oftheoretical perspective and available methodology for enrich the theoretical system ofmoral education and optimizing the moral education practice. Special economic,political, social conditions and the change of environment during the second worldwar in American is his theory background. His views mainly come from Comte’stheory of biological organic and the sociology of pragmatism, Spencer’s theory offunctional analysis and social structure analysis, Durkheim and Weber’s theory offunctionalism and social structure analysis. The main performance of structuralfunctionalism theory is conducive to enrich and perfect the value of theory systemabout moral education, such as the theory of social action provides a epistemologicaltool for construct the value of civil moral educational system, the theory of socialsystem deepen the regular significance of the social moral order; AGIL functionmodel provides a new paradigm to analyzes the structure of moral education system;the theory of social evolution provides a feasible root for govern the social moralorder and optimizes the system of moral education; the theory of social control ishelpful to internalizes the hierarchy of moral education. We can also learn thepractical value of the moral education from Parsons’ structural functionalism theory,the establishment of unit operations’ theory provides the logic basis choice for moraleducational objectives; the construction of system theory provides a methodologicalsupport for moral education system, five groups mode is variable to clear the valueorientation of moral education, analytical approach of variable pattern helps to improve the rationality of the education value’s orientation; the level of culturalcontrol can promote the whole innovation of the ethical culture system. Meanwhile,Parsons’ structural functionalism also has some defects on epistemology andmethodology. So we should think over the moral practice, such as the way to resolvethe negative effect of moral education; the way to eliminate the conflicts in thedevelopment of moral formation.
