It has stepped over 120 years since 1896, in which the overseas students were sent firstly to Japan by the government of Qing Dynasty. During the past 120 years, there have been a lot of sudden changes in the situation between China and Japan. And the Chinese studying in Japan has also been influenced by many aspects, it is fine one moment, bad the next. In short, it has been making progress slowly. Be similar to studying in Europe and the United States of America, the Chinese studying in Japan is not only a means to grasp the splendid culture from other nations for our Chinese nation, but also it is a hard career for us to grope, stride forward towards the modern time. So the researching has profound practical significance for us to know the Chinese modern history. Moreover, not only has it also the deepest efforts in the area of Sino-Japan cultural history, but also in the area of economy and the diplomatic relations. It also confirmed the fact from different aspects that the Chinese studying in Japan formed the important factors for the Sino-Japan relations.On the bases of the former existing research results, the author has tried to sort out clearly the past 120 years historical data of the Chinese studying in Japan from the angle of macro point. Meanwhile, it also gave some suggestions and research by the characteristics in different periods of studying in Japan. In this paper, the history of the Chinese studying in Japan is divided into two stages according to the development trend of study abroad moment. That is to say, the first high tide of the Chinese studying in Japan from the late Qing Dynasty(1896) to the Republic the China(1945), and the second high tide of the Chinese studying in Japan since the founding of our People’s Republic, following the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Japan.
