Research On The Relationship Between Students Studying In Japan And Development Of Modern Education And Newspapers Of Hubei In Late Qing Dynasty

Hubei is a province that had a large number of students studying in Japan in the late Qing dynasty. But there is a lack of an in-depth and systematic research on it. The academic circle tends to study it from the aspect of politic, economy and military, rarely take civilization as the theme. This paper will take the Hubei’s students studying in Japan as the research objectChapter one gives a brief introduction to the rise and development of the movement of students studying in Japan,together with the policy of study abroad and local social cultural tradition and atmosphere of Hubei, on the basis of which to summary the characteristics of the movement, namely long time, large scale, wide coverage, professional category and high level.Finally it points out they have the ideal for "inspire people’s intelligence "and unique radiation ability.Chapter two mainly discusses the relationship between students studying in Japan and the development of Hubei’s education career. When they were study in Japan,the students paid close attention to the education’s standardization development of their hometown, and eagerly organized the Three normal school’s assembly and Hubei education association. As soon as they returned, they actively got involved in education, including being faculty of small and medium-sized schools, opening new schools,supervising local education administration and so on. Students studying in Japan engaged in the basis education on a large scale in difficult times, which means a lot to the improvement and popularization of new education.Chapter three studies the role that students studying in Japan played in the development of local newspaper and periodicals. At first,it introduces the general situation of modern Hubei’s newspaper media. Based on that background, it sketches out the activities that students running newspapers before and after they back home, so as to disclose that they promote the prosperity of civilian-run newspapers in modern Hubei.The last part will make a conclusion of the efforts of students studying in Japan in the aspects of creating ethos and doing practical work. They specially focused on the linkage of both at home and abroad all the way. They finished the spatial displacement from Hubei to Japan and then from Japan to Hubei. And thus completed interaction across time and space.
