In order to understand the middle school students’ learning objectives described in Nine-year Compulsory Arts Curriculum Standards(revised in2011)(short as NCACS), this thesis has deeply discussed the Significance of Aesthetics produced during the process of regular middle school art education by combing the approaches of theoretical study and practical research under the background of curriculum reform of Chinese art education. What’s the Significance of Aesthetics? The Significance of Aesthetics makes the students to meet and analyze problems through the perspective of art by art education, which makes them to get the ability to discriminate things and form a critical mind. Thus,the research on the Significance of Aesthetics is a research of methodology. The education of Significance of Aesthetics is a comprehensive education which is the trinity of aesthetic education, artistic education and art education. The research starts with the importance of today’s art class and begins with two dimensions:students’ cognitive style and thinking style and then analyzes and discusses on the four central levels: aesthetics education, art education, teaching material and teaching approach, which aims at combining the aesthetics with the art. The study gets deeply into the teaching materials during the practical teaching to do some further investments. It tends to offer instructive suggestions to the establishment of an all-round Art-course education system, which focuses on the development of students’ clarity and innovation.This paper consists of six chapters: Chapter One mainly states the relevant literature and materials abroad about the Significance of Aesthetics, and also discusses the pros and cons of it. This chapter concentrates on the DBAE teaching in America and the art education in Germany, and at the same time, comparing to China’s current situation after the Curriculum Reform to point out the necessity of the Significance of Aesthetics. The core chapters of this paper are Chapter Two,Chapter Three, and Chapter Four. Chapter Two defines the concept of Beauty, and interprets the NCACS from the perspective of the Significance of Aesthetics.Chapter Three analyses the current situation of the Art education, and retrospect the Significance of Aesthetics from the view of the NCACS. Chapter Four focuses on both theoretical and practical analysis of the nine-grade Art curriculum,arguing the significance of beautify in Art education on the view of teaching materials and teaching methods. Chapter Five completes the concept of the Significance of Aesthetics from the points of both school-based curriculum and museum-based teaching, and also puts forward the author’s own thoughts.Chapter Six is the conclusion of the whole thesis.
