Chemistry is a discipline based on experiments. Though doing experiments, students can obtain vivid perceptual knowledge to understand and consolidate what they have learned better. Meanwhile, Chemistry experiments is an important means to develop the thinking and creative ability of students. Although the process of China’s education informatization speeds up and Chemistry new curriculum reform develops, there are problems in real situations such as the old experiment equipment, the shortage of experiment drugs, the fewer hours of lab’s open time, the lack of depth and scope of experiment content. Although some schools have made up these weaknesses and got some good effects by introducing virtual experiment, the current Chemistry virtual experiments system, mostly developed from 2-D technology, don’t have an obvious immersion effect. And the system ignore the design idea of the unity of experiment teaching resources, experiment operation and experiment evaluation, so it cannot help learners construct experiment knowledge effectively.In order to construct a middle school Chemistry virtual experiment system with the unity of experiment teaching resources, experiment operation and experiment evaluation and improve the experiment teaching quality, this thesis conduct research from the following aspects.Firstly, decide the goal of system development and analyze the requirements of middle school Chemistry curriculum reform for the design of virtual experiment.Second, supported by the related theories and technology, design a comprehensive middle school Chemistry virtual experiment system with management system, experiment operation system and experiment evaluation system. The new system, using the tools like ASP、3DSmax、Papervision3D、Flash CS5、database system and IIS server, simulating the experiment operation in real situations, developing the functions like experiment preparation, experiment report, experiment homework, communication area, developing the 3-D virtual experiment system in particular, enhances the immersion effects of virtual experiments and improves the interest of learners for experiment operation. At last, targeted on the students and Chemistry teachers in two middle schools in Lanzhou, make a survey on the experiment effects of virtual experiment system. The thesis finds that most teachers and students agree that the system is helpful and good for constructing experiment knowledge, but some teachers point out that there are some shortcomings for this system such as the interaction design and interface, the operation process of experiment, experiment evaluation and so on. And they give valuable advice on the further improvement of middle school Chemistry virtual experiment system.
