Since the Ministry of Education put forward the National Curriculum Standards for English Education in 2001, elementary educators have begun to further attach great importance to New Curriculum Reformation and Quality-oriented Education to cater for the new challenges. Influenced by the new curriculum reform, the teaching mode guided by the learning plan was presented. The learning plan is a learning proposal designed by teachers based on the new curriculum standard, students’ cognitive level, knowledge and experience, aiming to direct the students to construct their knowledge and enhance their autonomous learning ability, explorative learning ability, cooperative learning ability and language competence. In this study, the author aims to learn about the effects of the application of such teaching mode on English teaching and learning, and possible problems.In this investigation, the author employs questionnaire, interview and test. 146 senior high school students from grade 1 are investigated. The author selects 2 classes in Senior High Middle School in Sui County, class 29 and class 30 in grade one. Class 29 acts as control class, while class 30 acts as the experiment class. The author analyses all the data collected from questionnaires and tests. On the basis of the results and discussion of the investigation, effects of the application of the teaching mode guided by the learning plan can be concluded in the following aspects:(1) Students’ interest in learning English is cultivated.(2) Students’ autonomous learning ability is cultivated.(3) Students’ awareness of cooperation is enhanced.(4) Students’ explorative learning ability is improved.(5) Students’ language competence is strengthened.(6) Both the teaching efficiency and learning efficiency are greatly improved.The thesis is divided into 6 parts. Chapter one introduces the research background, the interpretation of the teaching mode guided by the learning plan, research questions and the purpose and significance of the research. Chapter two gives a literature review of related studies on the teaching mode guided by the learning plan at home and abroad. Chapter three is the theoretical basis. The part addresses the constructivism theory. Chapter four focuses on the research design which includes research subjects, instruments and the application of the teaching mode guided by the learning plan in the experiment class. Chapter five discusses the results to the research and makes a detailed analysis. On the basis of the investigation results, the reflection of students’ interest in English learning, autonomous learning ability, awareness of cooperation, explorative learning ability, language competence and performance on the tests is discussed. Chapter six is the conclusion, which summarizes the class changes after implementing the teaching mode guided by the learning plan, the problems and corresponding strategies.Through the experiment of implementing the teaching mode guided by the learning plan, the thesis could facilitate the empirical study on the teaching mode and widen the approaches to improving the efficiency of teaching and learning. In addition, it has implication on the future teaching activities.
