The great attention has always been paid to the aesthetic education thought of Co nfucianism, while not to that of Taoism. The comparison research on the two is rather rare. In fact, the two thoughts are complementary and meanwhile blending. While the former aims at sociality and ethics, the latter aims at the liberation of individual spirit. The former emphasizes the unity of beauty and goodness, the latter emphasizes follow ing the nature. The ideal personality of Confucianism is achieved through humanistic acquisition, while the ideal personality of Taoism is achieved through spiritual experie nce. By the comparative study of the two thoughts on society and individual, acquisiti on and experience, secular utility and transcendence, we can get meaningful inspiratio n on the implementation of aesthetic education nowadays.
