The Research About The Influence Of College Counselors’ Non-power

Being the core force of ideological and political education of institutions of higher learning, college counselors play an important role in the organization, guidance and implementation of students’daily management and activity organization. In recent years, college counselors, on the one hand, should carry out various kinds of jobs in different fields; on the other hand, are experiencing increasing workload due to unreasonable personnel resource allocation. The number of students allocated to every college counselor often exceed the prescribed standard. And with the universities’enrollment expansion trend, this number could not but continue to rise, under which condition the heavy workload of the counselors cannot be alleviated in a short term. The fact that the freshmen in the universities currently are mostly the only children even makes it more difficult for the counselors to do their jobs. Those only children’relatively stronger sense of independence allows them more chances to get access to new things and new ideas, especially in such an open atmosphere of public opinion. As a result, traditional way of managing students using administrative orders could possibly fail to work. College counselors, therefore, should not only improve their own quality and competence, get to know the students better and set up more scientific and reasonable working plan, but also guide students from the ideological level instead of suppress or restrain students relying on their power.Under the current new situation of higher education, college counselors are facing the problem of how to exert their function and how to do the job of students’ education and management well. The research done in this paper therefore serves the purpose of finding a better way to advance the working quality of college counselors.As the future of our motherland, college students’ideological and political education is very important and necessary. College counselors, who are keeping intimate contact with the students, exert great influence on the students’ behavior and thinking manner. It is their responsibility to carry out ideological education for college students. This paper, through researching on the counselors’ non-power influence and analyzing the relevant factors that affecting their non-power influence, strives to find better way for the counselors to exert their influence.The effective application of non-power influence of college counselors is the need of their professionalization and specialization construction. The university counselors’ professionalization and specialization help to give full play the non-power influence of them, and this could only be realized with the improvement of their professional as well as personal quality. Achieving this goal guarantees the counselors to manage students better and serves them better.The effective application of non-power influence of college counselors is also the need for enhancing the effectiveness of college students’ ideological and political education, which in turns is essential for students’ healthy growth. Assuming the main duties of college students’ ideological education, the counselors can make more profound and lasting impact on college students’ thought only by effectively exerting their non-power influence. When college students’ ideological and political education becomes made effective, college students might well develop and grow properly under the counselors’ guidance.
