Abstract/Summary:
With the further deepening and development of English curriculum reform, more and more attention has been paid to the English teaching in primary school. In recent years, however, there still exist many problems in the primary school English teaching and the imbalance of primary school English classroom ecology is also growing. Whether the primary school English classroom ecology is harmonious or not not only concerns students’learning enthusiasm at the beginning of learning English, effects whether the students can master the correct methods of learning English & whether they can form good habits of learning English, but also concerns English teachers’ teaching effectiveness, professional development, and the relationship between teachers and students. Therefore, English teachers have to learn, master and attach great importance to the ecology of classroom, which is of great significance to the common development and growth of teachers and students.Based on the above research background, this study firstly defines the two core concepts of "ecology" and "classroom ecology" on the basis of combing and analysis of related literature at home and abroad, and then expounds the basic connotation and main characteristics of English classroom ecology and its structure and function. Secondly, the method of questionnaire is mainly used in this study. On the basis of the existing scale questionnaire, this study selects two township primary schools, two county primary schools and two municipal primary schools with a total of six classes, about 300 students which have been selected as the questionnaire respondents. Through the statistics and analysis of the questionnaires, the results indicate that more than 80% of the students have relatively strong interest in learning English, but more than 25% of the students are not satisfied or very unsatisfied with the class; teachers in class answer questions more patiently than they do after class; only thirty percent of the students think that teachers in the classroom often make a reasonable evaluation for their actions; whether a teacher prepares a lesson fully or not has certain internal relation with whether the teacher’s teaching time arrangement is in order or not; there exist obvious differences between teachers’ guidance on students’ learning strategies and students’ learning methods need to be improved. Students’ evaluation on the current relationship between them and their teachers basically appears into a normal distribution and half of the students have chosen the middle grade which indicates that the current relationship between teachers and students is not ideal enough; only about 25% of them think students can often keep quiet in class. To solve the above plight of English classroom ecology, this study suggests that the following five strategies to optimize the primary school English classroom ecology: teachers should establish the classroom ecological concepts of students-oriented and keeping pace with the times; teachers should shape the teaching behavior in accord with the principles of ecology; teachers should stimulate students’ study potential and strengthen the guidance of students’ learning strategies; a democratic & harmonious and interactive & conversational relationship between teachers and students should be established; a good ecological environment in classroom teaching should be created.
