A Contrastive Analysis Of The Value Of "friendship" Between Chinese And Russian University Students

In recent years, with the acceleration of the economic globalization and the process of reform and opening, the economic and cultural contacts have become more frequent between people from Xinjiang and foreign countries. Foreign students coming to study in Xinjiang have been increasing, especially students from Central Asian countries and Russia. They often make mistakes and laughing stock in living, learning and interacting with people in this foreign land, mainly because of their language proficiency, customs, living habits and so on, values and concepts playing a leading role. This thesis focuses on Han Chinese university students in Xinjiang and Russian students from Novosibirsk to find out the similarities and differences between them on the value of friendship in cross cultural communication.The questionnaire this study designed on the value of friendship was administered to 100 students in Xinjiang and 43 from Russia. The results showed that, compared with Chinese students, Russian students have a higher trust and more care to friends. Chinese students have a higher loyalty and intimacy to their friends, and will give more support to friends. In terms of gender difference, male students will give more trust, support and loyalty to their friends while female students seem to give more intimacy and care to their friends.This research will enrich intercultural communication studies. It will promote better communication between Chinese and Russian university students and provide some valuable reference to students studying in Xinjiang to help them avoid misunderstandings and jokes in the process of communication. On the other hand, it will also play a role in teaching value differences in cross-cultural communication so that the teacher can conduct teaching cultural differences more effectively and efficiently.
