The group cooperation study produced most early in the 18 th century England,afterwards it spread to America. In the 1960 s, the group cooperative learning has become the important teaching model of North America and other countries and regions.Especially in nearly 20 years, cooperative learning as an important way of learning is widely used in various disciplines, in each period, all kinds of school teaching, its operation mechanism is also increasingly mature. At present, the social development of talent demand is higher and higher, and the new curriculum reform gradually thorough, much attention has been paid to primary English learning status. Group cooperative learning,which has become one of three new curriculum standard teaching patterns, is becoming more and more widely application in primary English teaching,and it is really significant to promote the elementary student’s English comprehensive ability in China. However, group cooperative learning also appeared a lot of problems when it used in English teaching.Therefore, this paper is based on that group cooperative learning is widely used in elementary English teaching, combining with the author’s practical English teaching experience. Through the teacher interviews, a questionnaire and the empirical survey, the paper analyzes the problems existing in the primary English cooperative learning group, tries to seek for the corresponding solution measures, which will do good to the localization of English teaching in China.In this paper the application of group cooperative learning of English in primary schools were discussed based on the empirical findings, from teachers, students, and other perspectives. By introducing the research background and significance, research contents and research methods and the relevant research both at home and abroad, understand the current research on cooperative learning group at home and abroad, providing theoretical basis for the present situation of the cooperative learning group investigation.Aiming at various problems arising from the primary school English cooperative learning group, this paper puts forward in the primary school English classroom effective application of cooperative learning group some strategies, including the effective guidance and training of the students’ cooperative learning skills, teachers’ role in group cooperative learning in the accurate and effective construction of cooperative learning group,and so on.
