Reading is one of the language competences,and it’s an important channel through which we acquire information,pick up magnificent cultures,develop thinking and sentiment, and cultivate noble virtues. The middle school period is important for a person’s life and therefore the reading condition in this period has been given more and more attention from different aspects. Teachers of Chinesehave made great efforts, but many factors such as test-oriented education have greatly affected the enhancement of the reading level of the middle school students, and made it far from satisfactory, and some problems exist including reading motivation, reading quantities, reading qualities and reading applicantion. The present course reform has put forward new requirements for middle school students’ reading abilities. Thepaper examined the language proficiency requirements in the course criterion, and conducted a survey on the middle school students’ reading condition in Yan’an region. We give 6 proposals: 1. Teachers and students should do a thorough research into the basic language requirements in the course criterion; 2. Enhance the reading level of the teachers of Chinese; 3.teachstudents some basic reading skills; 4.give instructions on how to broaden their reading scope; 5. Instruct them enhance reading qualities; 6.encourage them to apply what they have read into their lives. I hope my paper will trigget some thinking in teacherd and make concerted efforts to improve the teaching level and help students enhance their reading abilities and lay s solid foundation for their lifelong development.
