Human, a cultural being, is an existence of culture. Facing with the cultural loss in education, the paper pays close attention to the realization of human value on the base of mathematics teaching at a micro level in order to enhance the life quality of teachers and to alleviate the crisis of value lost in education.Mathematics teaching has cultural value because of the culture in mathematics. The essence of mathematics is culture and the essence of mathematics teaching is cultural education.This paper consists of three parts besides the introduction.The part I is theoretical construction, including the first chapter and second chapter. This part involves the theoretical construction of philosophical and teaching to lay the theoretical basis for a full discussion. The first chapter is discussed on a philosophical level to explore the essence of mathematics. Firstly, the paper explains the connotation of culture and lay foundations to explain the essence of mathematics. Then, it put forward some opinions on the essence of mathematics from the view of man’s development. In the second chapter, a proposition is put forward during putting theory into teaching practice, that is cultural education is the essence of mathematics teaching. Based on this proposition, the paper discusses the essence, cultural implications, cultural characterization and cultural mechanism of mathematics teaching.The part II is practical care, including the third chapter. Firstly, this part describes and analysis a phenomenon of cultural loss in education by examining the classroom teaching. There are three facts that contribute to the phenomenon..Substance mode of thinking leads to surface teaching. The expansion of instrumental rationality leads to factual teaching.These two finally lead to intellectual fetishism in teaching practice.The part III is solving strategies, including the fourth chapter. To change the cultural loss in education, we must change teaching and pursuit the return of culture. The return of culture requires a change from facts to cultural value, a change from substantive thinking to practical thinking. According to the formation mechanism of cultural value, the cultural value of mathematics teaching can be found from the following four aspects, highlight the cultural meaning of knowledge when teaching, communicate with each other when exchanging, reflect personal experience when studying, guide when teaching.
