Life is mankind’s most valuable asset and the foundation of all social activities. Lifeeducation is not only the most primitive task but the most essential mission of education. Themodern society is characterized by the rapid development of technology, the arrival of socialnetworks and the generation of globalization, having a direct impact on the life education.Additionally, China has to complete the development tasks of tradition and modern, modernand post-modern, the tasks which have been accomplished by developed countriessuccessively, in the same space. The contemporary life education, thus, faces both multiplechallenges and opportunities at the sametime. In this process, Chinese traditional view of lifeand one-child policy cause a great concern in the community on the issue that the collegestudent population appears a phenomenon of individual extreme indifference to life. In thispaper, the theory, status, deficiency and countermeasures of contemporary universitystudents’ life education will be analyzed with the key point of the phenomenon of indifferenceto life among the university student population and the vision of life education.Firstly, the status quo of contemporary college students’ view of life will be analyzed inthis paper. The status quo and its limitations will be analyzed through investigating theirunderstanding and performance in the layers of natural life, social life and spiritual life.Secondly, the theory and practice of contemporary college students’ life education will beanalyzed from two dimensions of content and history development. Life education refers to asocial practice of educating people to learn to survive, learn to live and understand themeaning of life, including three dimensions: cherishing natural life, maintaining social lifeand enjoying spiritual life. Analyzing the research and practice of life education according tothe three dimensions, contrasting the current status quo of contemporary college students’ view of life and reflecting the deficiency of current life education will lay a theoreticalfoundation for improving life education. Thirdly, the reasons behind the issue of lifeeducation will be explained from the four layers of school, family, society and individual. Inthe school layer, the connotation of life education is narrowed and superficialized in that itsinstrumental rationality value is attached importance to by the school; in the family layer, thefunction of life education is neglected due to the misplaced love of family; in the social layer,the life education is misguided because of the utilitarianism of orientation of life value; in theindividual layer, the critical ability of life education is weakened by individual spontaneousself-education ability. Finally, the countermeasures will be proposed on the basis of the cuasesof problem, namely returning to the essence of life education, creating a good environment offamily life education, optimizing the environment of social life education and improvingstudents’ self-education ability. The synergy of these four aspects promotes the continuousimprovement of life education and achieves a healthy development of contemporary collegestudents’ life.Life education is one of the essence of education. Restoring the original meaning ofeducation in exploring the theory and practice is conducive to making education become asort of human living way, reach a natural life education, social life education, and eventuallyrise to a spiritual life education in the technical and psychological layers.
