Bilingual teaching mode is necessary for ethnic minorities education and has been developed greatly in Xinjiang. It is a important means with great realistic significance to improve the quality of education in Xinjiang.The study of bilingual teaching in Xinjiang has long been made from macro, systematic and theoretical perspectives, which neglects the particularity and differences of disciplines. This thesis studies bilingual teaching of geography in detail because geography is my major. Through reviewing the related literature, it is found that great attention has been paid to Uyghur nationality about its bilingual teaching while the researches about Kazak nationality owning the second population size in Xinjiang is scarce. Under the circumstances, this thesis takes the teachers and students coming from different schools as the study objects in order to know the bilingual teaching situation of geography. Under the guidance of bilingual teaching principles, ethnic pedagogy and general pedagogy, the thesis analyzes the situation and difficulties of geography teaching in Kazak middle schools by questionnaire, interview, observation and many other investigations. Based on the survey results and related theories, some suggestions were proposed to overcome these difficulties.This thesis can be divided into four parts. The first part includes the explanation of related concepts, research review at home and abroad, research methods and research innovation, etc. The second part introduces the present situation of geography bilingual teaching in Xinjiang middle schools from four aspects of faculty, textbooks, teaching conditions and class teaching. The third part discusses the difficulties of geography bilingual teaching in Xinjiang middle schools. Based on the above analysis, the problems existing in geography bilingual teaching were found and the reasons causing these problems were explained in this part. The fourth part offers some proposals to solve these problems in geography bilingual teaching in Xinjiang middle schools from the perspective of national policies, schools and faculty.
