In modern society, more and more parents pay much attention to the cultivation of children’s early reading ability, and the premise of early reading ability is to provide children with early reading materials. The quality of the materials which parents provide for children directly relates to the early reading activities smoothly. The levels of the children’s reading development vary from different ages, the choice of reading material must follow the developing rules of children. This article will take the early reading material in the children’s books as the research object, to study the consumption when parents purchase the reading material for their children in senior kindergarten. Compared to children in the primary and middle class in a kindergarten, cognitive level of the children in the senior kindergarten has greatly improved, and faces the special stage of primary school. What kinds of children’s books suit their needs? What confused parents in the purchase of children’s books for the children in senior kindergarten? This study has investigated and analyzed more than 200 children parents of two kindergartens in Beijing via the questionnaire method and interview method. The diagnoses include the perception of the importance of children’s reading material, the purpose to buy children’s reading material, the count of children’s reading material. the cost from children’s reading material. the way of purchasing children’s reading material, the types of purchasing children’s reading material and the standard of purchasing children’s reading material and the current market evaluation of children’s reading material.Through the diagnoses, the paper has analyzed the characteristics and problems when the parents purchase children’s reading material.The problems when the children in the senior kindergarten parents purchase children’s reading material include: fail to recognize the aesthetic function of children’s books; the types of children’s reading material are incomplete; less consideration of gender; don’t understand children’ age characteristics; lack professional purchasing channel; the evaluation of domestic children’s books is not high. In view of the above problems, the author puts forward the following suggestions: the children in the senior kindergarten parents should have a correctunderstanding of the function of children’s books; the children in the senior kindergarten parents buy children’s books type diversification;the children in the senior kindergarten parents should understand the characteristics of children; the children in the senior kindergarten parents buy children’s books should be combined with the children’s gender; the children in the senior kindergarten parents could get help from kindergarten in purchasing children’s books. At the same time, the science should provide help for the children in the senior kindergarten parents.
