Traditional history courses tend to focus only on access to knowledge; they have no clear requirements about the students’ history learning ability, processes and methods. They emphasize the ideological and political education, while ignoring the cultivation of students’ healthy personality. The new basic education curriculum reform from the perspective of students’ learning and development which explicitly put forward the course objectives of knowledge and capabilities, processes and methods and emotional attitude and values, that calls "three-dimensional target”. Among in the three, the target of process and methods explicitly mentioned: “To master the basic methods of historical learning, to learn the basic concepts and methods of historical materialism and to strive from history and combine theory with history.” It requires students to fundamentally change the methods of acceptance of learning, mechanical training and reciting, to advocate the new ways of autonomy, cooperation and inquiry. And the target of emotional attitude and values requires combining the social educational function of the history with the education function of the human development; it concerns about the growth of the students and inspires the hearts of students. It allows the students to master the scientific theories and methods while gradually form a outlook on scientific materialist world and on life which is positive and optimistic, and struggle for building socialism with Chinese characteristics and the better future of the human.History curriculum in Ordinary high school is a basic course which uses the viewpoint of historical materialism to explain the process and the law of development of human history. It cultivates and improves students’ historical consciousness, cultural qualities and humanities further, and also gives students’ comprehensive development. Learning the basic ideas and methods of historical materialism is to have a try on “Theory coming from History” and “Combining theory with History”. So, it’s particularly important to improve students’ ability of “Combining theory with History” in the process of teaching high school history.This thesis firstly elaborates the meanings of history, view of history and historical meaning as well as the relationship of the three, and then leads to the view of “Combining theory with History”. Which is the basic characteristic of historical learning, the important method of historical research, and also the basic principles of history teaching that must adhere to. This makes the history teachers should pay more attention to cultivate the students’ capacity in “Combining theory with History” in practice; Secondly, Combined with the requirements of the curriculum standards and history textbooks for training the high school students’ “Combining theory with History”, it describes the history teaching and learning process in high school, which has the present situation and the existing problems of history of disjointed and dubious. Address these issues, I give several suggestions according to teachers and students. Based on the example of class “The Revolution of 1911” of the PEP edition for high school, lastly describes in detail how to use the “Theory coming from History” and “Combining theory with History” in teaching practice under the guidance of the historical theories. Every aspect of the instructional design as much as possible to comply with the principles of the “Theory coming from History” and “Combining theory with History”.
