English curriculum Criteria(2013)of The Full-Time Ordinary Senior School points out that English teaching of high school should focus students’ critical thinking skills and abilities of analyzing and solving problems. English writing teaching, as an important and necessary part of high school teaching, is very logical. It not only makes students grasp the vocabulary and grammar but also cultivates students’ critical thinking skills, such as, analyzing, questioning, inferring, summarizing, evaluating. Besides, English writing teaching guides students not only to understand the writing material but also the author’s point of view, emotional attitude and writing intention. What’s more, English writing teaching makes students analyze context and appreciate language and culture. Finally, English writing teaching cultivates students’ ability of critical thinking and improves writing ability. In view of that, the author thinks that writing process can be combined with the critical thinking process. This paper aims to explore in this field.In this paper, the evaluation model is writing assessment scale which is integrated into critical thinking scale and the Ielts evaluation. This scale contains two layers, one is language layer, the other is discourse layer. The two layers are made of ten standards, which are used to measure the comparison between experimental group and comparative group before and after the experiment. At last, through this study, we get the following results.(1) In experimental group, their writing abilities and critical thinking skills both improve significantly.(2) In experimental group, their writing strategies change a lot.(3)Under the guidance of critical thinking, students’ ability of writing, students’ language and discourse levels are all improved.Under the guidance of critical thinking, the author conducts this empirical experiment to explore its processes :(1)Inputting critical skills through studying text.(2)Training writing under the guidance of critical thinking skills.(3)after collecting the writing material, students are organized interactive learning by teacher.(4)After the group discussion, students are required to write within the limited time.(5)Analysing and evaluating students’ writing under the guidance of critical thinking skills.Finally, the author verifies its teaching effects and achieves expected results. This study may throw some light to critical writing teaching and the traditional teaching concept. Meanwhile, it proves to be a worthwhile attempt to improve students’ critical thinking and writing skills.
