| This thesis mainly aims at the present situation of the students’ English homework in junior middle school. With the economic growth in China, the construction of the city is expanding rapidly. But in this process, there is usually a phenomenon that the supposed matching construction of education seriously lags behind the well built hardware facilities of the city. This not only reflects in the education policy, as well as the relevant educational management and educational research. Some middle schools in the urban fringe usually have more complex education statistics, and much more is this the case with some of the tourist cities. Urban students, rural students, immigrant students and local students are all mixed up,therefore it requires that the layout of the English homework must consider all aspects of the factors, and the pattern of one size fits all should be resolutely avoided.This study involves the following three research questions:(1) Under the slogan of the quality education, what is the present situation of English homework assignment nowadays?(2) What is the comment of the students on the English homework?(3)What are the main factors in and out of the school that have influence on the assigning and completion of the English homework?Targeted at the students of 3 grades in Baishatan middle school where I work, this paper aims to have some insight into the current situation of English assignment with a variety of empirical method or methodology such as questionnaire and interview, and a systematic investigation and study on the problems and shortcomings in the assigning of English homework in junior middle school. This study will try to find out the causes of this phenomenon that has existed despite repeated bans, and try to find out some ways to eliminate the malpractices in English assignment model, and how to give an effective English assignment.The study shows that the traditional English homework assignment pattern has been bothering the middle school teachers and students. Regardless of the policy that repeatedly urges to alleviate the burden on students, phenomenon of excessive, repetitive assignment from English teachers still exist in a large amount. On the one hand, the students are struggling with the problem of the exercises-stuffed learning, which has hurt their enthusiasm in learning English, and on the other hand, the teachers have been overwhelmed with homework.The present English assignment model is out of tune with most students. It is not only a violation of the student oriented educating notions but also a violation of the original intention of assigning homework as an assistant to consolidate and review of the knowledge.On the reform of education, even the specific to the reform of the English assignment, we also need to change from the big aspects to improve the present examination mode and teacher evaluation system. Only to find the root of the problem can the change of English assignment mode no longer a sloganeering. Another point is that we need to reduce administrative intervention; we should never prevent the students’ burden from being overloaded at the price of denying the teachers’ freedom in the English assignment, which would make the English assignment move towards another extreme.On the factors affecting the effective completion of English homework, besides the assignment model and quality, other aspects such as immigration, how many English education resources can one student get, the guardian’s quality and so on should be taken into consideration, too. Only by taking into account the various factors can we give the most reasonable English homework, so that there can be a qualitative ascendance of English education.This paper is divided into five parts: The first part is the introduction, which will introduce the background, purpose and significance of the study. The second part is the literature review, which will introduce the definition of homework, the related research in this field in china and abroad and the principle of homework design, so that there can be a theoretical basis and framework support for the follow-up study. The third part is the content and method of research. This chapter mainly introduces the object, subjects and method used in the research. The fourth part is the main body of the paper. Through the relevant investigation and interview questionnaire, the relevant results are obtained, and the data are analyzed and summarized accordingly. The fifth part belongs to the inference. |
