The reform of the teaching material is the core content of the basic education reform in our country. Junior middle school chemistry learning that is for students to understand chemistry subject starting stage, chemistry textbook writing needs to be based on students’ cognitive level and interest in learning. Only on the basis of the cognitive level and interest of students, the teaching materials in chemical subject future development can be play the role of not allow to ignore. Therefore carries on the comparative study of junior middle school chemistry teaching material in China and the United States, combining with the characteristics of our own teaching material and reference to the advantages in the American textbooks, provide powerful basis for further reform of basic education.This article mainly adopts the comparative research, the second is using the literature research and case study method, etc. First explain the junior middle school chemistry teaching material reform and the present situation in use today of china and US, to our compulsory education in version of chemical teaching material and the junior middle school nine grade chemical part and American middle school of the mainstream science textbooks "scientific explorer" from the characteristics of the course objectives, structure, content rich and so on has carried on the comparative study. The content from the illustration about knowledge, teaching material, experimental inquiry activity aspect and the set of problem sets and so on four aspects to comparative study. This topic in the comparative study on the basis of analyzing the characteristics and disadvantages of two sets of teaching materials, and puts forward some suggestions of teaching: the combination of unity and diversity, experiment content closer to life, strengthen the infiltration of disciplines between teaching material contents, pay attention to cultivate the students’ scientific literacy, etc.
