| With the quickened pace of globalization, communication between people has become increasingly frequent. As an important language, English is highly valued nowadays. People of different ages from all walks of life display unprecedented enthusiasm in English learning. The advantages of early childhood in learning a second language and the “Critical Period†theory in language learning have been scientifically substantiated. Therefore, the age of people learning English becomes younger. Even from the kindergarten period, English-learning has already become a trend. To explore the modes of English-learning for children in China, diverse kinds of teaching models were created. In 1997, the immersion teaching experiment with Chinese local flavors carried out by Chinese and Canadian experts in Xi’an yielded a wonderful teaching effect and thus blazed a trail for children’s English learning in China. On the basis of combining the “Critical Period†Hypothesis of language acquisition, theories about Second Language Acquisition and Life Education, this research carried out a 6-month observation on and picture-recording of the half-day activities of junior kindergarten children, made corpus analysis from three aspects-teaching activities, daily life activities, autonomous games- to explore the contribution of immersion life-based teaching to English acquisition of children. In addition, the research also explored the influence of immersion life-based teaching on the development of children’s personality from its four dimensions: intelligent characteristic, serious self-control, emotionality and prosociality. By analyzing the teaching corpus, and with the help of questionnaire and interview record, the following conclusion was drawn:1. Immersion life-based teaching improves the English acquisition of children through highly effective teaching activities, for example, comprehensible input, diverse teaching modes, right teaching strategy and life-based teaching contents; immersing daily English expressions in daily life activities and children communicating in English in their autonomous games.2. Immersion life-based teaching promotes the development of children’s personality through its four dimensions: intelligent characteristic, serious self-control, emotionality and prosociality. |
