In process of the new-curriculum reform(2001) in China, teachers are asked to update teaching concepts in teaching and actively guide students to change learning style to improve their learning ability. Teaching of modern Chinese is regarded as a language communication activity to develop students’ verbal ability in the contextual approach. It emphasizes the importance to follow and apply context theory in the guide for teachers and students and flexible use of various context teaching methods to improve teaching effectiveness. The contextual approach with the help of the particular language environment for teaching is crucial to the Chinese teaching in high school. It can arouse students’ learning interest and promote their learning efficiency and Chinese comprehension ability.On the basis of literature studies, this article overviews the relevant theories about context and contextual approach. It investigates the present situation of teaching and learning about modern Chinese in high school by interviews and then puts forward some corresponding solutions. Among these solutions, this article is focused on how to apply the context teaching method, situational context teaching method, social cultural context teaching method and cognitive context teaching method in the modern Chinese teaching in high school. In addition, several suggestions which could further promote the quality of contextual approach are put forward in this article.
