Junior middle school students are in the period of adolescence, in the key period of life development. They are both vulnerable to outside interference and strong plasticity. Lots of researches about junior middle school students have been made on abroad and in domestic. But these researches were mainly aimed at the junior middle school students in city or in rural, few research was aimed at the junior middle school students in rural-urban fringe zone. With the development of China, the rural-urban fringe zone is more and more important, and the number of junior middle school students there is increasing. The rural-urban fringe zone should get more attention.So, this research took the rural-urban fringe zone junior middle school students as the main research object. This research investigated the current situation of the junior middle school students’gratitude and learning motivation in urban and rural areas, then this research explored the relationship between the gratitude and learning motivation of these students.This research used Adolescent Gratitude Scale (AGS) and learning motivation questionnaire to investigate 647 junior middle school students. After analysing the data, we can see the result is as follows:(1) The level of gratitude of the junior middle school students in the rural-urban fringe zone is not high, it’s significantly lower than the rural junior students and the urban junior students. So it is meaningful to study the junior middle school students in the rural-urban fringe zone.(2) After further study of the gratitude of the junior middle school students in the rural-urban fringe zone, it is found that there are significant differences between the three variables in the grade, gender and the only child or not.(3) The learning motivation of the junior middle school students in the rural-urban fringe zone is not strong, and the main aim of these junior middle school students is to get the praise, appreciation or material reward. Their learning motivation have significant differences in grade performance, students of grade nine’s learning motivation is the strongest. Their learning motivation is not significant in gender and only child or not.(4) The gratitude of the junior middle school students in the rural-urban fringe zone is positively related to their learning motivation. The gratitude of the junior middle school students has a significant predictor of learning motivation. For junior middle students with low learning motivation in the rural-urban fringe zone, we can try to improve their learning motivation by improving their gratitude.
