On University Spirit And Human Development

The university spirit is the soul of the university. At the beginning of modern university construction, people have been concentrating on the university spirit. Humanism is the core of university spirit which considers science as the goal and also full of humanity values and humanity concern. People are now living in an extensively materialized modern society and university provide students with a relative information-opened environment. In order to protect the university spirit from being affected by utilitarian-based affection, it is getting increasingly important to focus on the university spirit and protect it.This thesis bases on the classical Theory of Marxism and triggers people to think from the lack of university spirit. Firstly, this thesis expounds the theory of the free and comprehensive development of humans in Marxism, introduces the background to propose the theory of free and comprehensive development of humans, analyzes the meanings of comprehensive development and free development of humans and the essential difference between the two, and describes the historic formation process of the free and comprehensive development of humans. After that this thesis has introduced the guiding function of university spirit to college students and represented the meaning of university spirit. In this chapter it talks about what the university spirit is. It includes connotation of the university spirit, and views of domestic and foreign well-known educators for the university spirit and university education.Secondly, analyze university spirit and the theory of free and comprehensive development of human in Marxism is consistent. This chapter first explains the theoretical consistency of the two, then points out that the university spirit is one of the effective ways to achieve free and all-round development of humans, and finally concludes that the theory of Marxism about free and comprehensive development of humans can guide how to nurture and protect university spirit. Next it describes the situation of lacked university spirit and analyzes from many aspects of education methods, system settings and the adverse consequences caused by lack of the university spirit.Eventually, on the basis of the theory of Marxism about the free and comprehensive development of humans, it proposes the strategy to uphold the university spirit, return the basic role of education and cultivate talents with free and comprehensive development. It mainly makes leveled and expanded analysis from two aspects of targeted spiritual and cultural training and guiding students to establish the university spirit through the construction of a reasonable system and environment.
