Educational institutions in most countries are not unfamiliar with the way of group cooperative learning, and the application of this kind of learning style has a certain history. In cooperative learning, to promote students’ all-round development as the goal, cultivation of the students’ ability of autonomous learning, in the interaction between teachers and students, to maintain the dominant position of the students, guide the students innovative thinking, establish a positive exploration, innovation consciousness, trains the student to develop independent innovation, good character. At present, our country of the group cooperative learning to explore and research has made some achievements, but still the main theoretical achievements, lack of research in the field of teaching practice, to geography teaching in junior middle school as research object of team learning research is very rare.In this paper, the concept of cooperative learning and related theory as the basis of the study, the domestic and foreign research status of the field are introduced, and the advantages of cooperative learning are described. By way of questionnaire investigation, interview and tests, to Da Gang Zi Zhen middle school and surrounding the peace Town Middle School, middle school Long Zhao, sea Tuo Xiang middle school as the object of study, understand conducted in rural middle school group cooperative learning situation, summarizes the problems existing in the rural middle school group cooperative learning, and analyzes the reasons, put forward the optimization strategy of cooperative learning. The results show that cooperative learning application in geography teaching in rural junior middle school can significantly improve student achievement, improve the students’ expression ability, to stimulate interest in students of the junior high school geography learning. In the process of group cooperative learning, we can improve the application effect of the group cooperative learning in the rural middle school by optimizing the preparation, optimizing the implementation process and optimizing the evaluation feedback.
