At the beginning of 1970s, as a creative and effective teaching theory——The "Cooperative Learning" became popular in the USA and widely accepted by many countries in the world. At the end of 20th century, the study of cooperative learning has also appeared in our educational circles. Cooperative Learning experienced two stages: From transplantation to improvement, from improvement to innovation, during it has introduced into a new round of basic education reform in China at the beginning of twenty-first Century. Homework, as an important part of the teaching, is also facing the reform. According to the traditional education idea, the homework is often regarded as the subsidiary of teaching, which not only lost its rightful place. Along with the con-tinuous deepening development of new curriculum, the characteristics of traditional work affect the concept and method of new course work:simplex and boring about the work's contents, out of touch with life, repeating of mechanical training and so on. This situation not only increased the burden of students, but also can't cultivate ability of students in many aspects. In order to solve this problem, many teachers try to explore the reform of homework in practice. The group work is one of the most important of them, which was based on cooperative learning. Group Work aim to exert the students' subjectivity and initiative and mobilize the enthusiasm of the study, which can consoli-date knowledge effectively and cultivate the students'practical ability and the spirit of coop-eration. Therefore, it has been attracted considerable attention by students and teachers.Geography curriculum in junior high school has its own unique characteristics:com-prehensive, regional interesting and living. These characteristics make the combination of junior high school geography and group work has a natural advantage. At present, a lot of junior high school geography teachers try to take Group Work in teaching. But there is a lot of problems, such as the emphasis on collective cooperation and ignore individual thinking, overstating or ignoring students' practical in the actual operation. These problems are related to teachers' lack of work design considerations.By analyzing large number of relevant academic findings of cooperative learning and middle school homework both in domestic and overseas, this paper studied the follow-ing content:First, the meaning and relationship between cooperative learning, new cur-riculumof and Group Work were redefined from the perspective of the concept of as-signments. Second, in order to further improve the role of Group Work in middle school student's learning process we summarized the experience of traditional work and foreign Group Work from the perspective of "sublation". Third, we have made an investigation and survey of Group Work's theme, type and students expectation among teachers and students in the Xi'an TieYi middle school to exhibit the practical condition of coopera-tive geography learning in junior high school. Fourth, according to the theory of new curriculum and geography teaching, the characteristics, principles and implementation strategy of geographic Group Work design were put forward. Fifth, on the premise of effective design, the classification of geographical group types and case design provided the basis for group work actual operation.In this article, by studying the theory and practice research of group work, we sum-marized the design of the junior high school geography Group Work as follows three aspects. First, effective Group Work design should follow an integrated train of thought: Curriculum standard determine work design; the evaluation of work design synchronous design; Group work feedback should reflect the student learning ability and learning effect. Second, effective junior high school geography group work should be interesting, practicability, zetetic study, flexibility, hierarchy, and ideological content. Third, the effective junior high school geography group work should follow:reasonable study group is the premise, teachers' role positioning is the key, content selection is the em-phasis, independent thinking is purpose, effective evaluation is the guarantee.The innovation of this article is:The cooperative learning was introduced into work area, and we put forward the theory of group work design on the basis of summarizing the practical experience. In the process of reform of new course, people always focused on the reform of classroom teaching. But the work reform and extensionality study of cooperative learning are relatively few. Group work is a try that cooperative learning was using in the work under new situation, and it has been part of the teachers used in the practical teaching. As a new form of homework, Group Work study mainly is given priority to actual operation in education, but its theoretical research was not thorough and systematical. This paper began from the design of group, and put forward the effec-tive design theory. We hope our study was able of enriching the reserch of work, as same time it providede a certain theoretical reference for effective design of group work.
