In 2001, the Ministry of Education of China carried out The Standard of English Curriculum of Full-time Compulsory Education(Experimental manuscript) and The Standard of English Curriculumin Senior Middle School(Experimental manuscript)(Hereinafter referred to as The Standard), arming to reform anddeepen compulsory education and promote the development of national education, which restates the teaching aims of English curriculum in basic education stage and stresses on the importance of English school-based curriculum development.Based on the regulations of national standards, school-based English curriculum is a course which is applied according to school’s characteristics and students’ learning situation. The main task and basic purpose is to enrich English teaching content and to promote students’ comprehensive development.At present, school-based English curriculum has been developed and put forward in many schools with various types and features.Interested in the current situation of school-based curriculum development(SBCD), the author set it as research topic. In the early stage, the author applied literature method to study the current situation and thus established theoretical basis. During more than one year, the author conducted field research in D High School in Changchun using observation method and interview method as research methods. Based on mentioned preparations, the essay was composed after careful consideration, consisting five chapters. The content is as follows:Chapter One states the research background, significance, purpose, and questions of this study, concludes the related studies in and outside the country, and introduces specific methods and logic of the study.Chapter Two introduces the definition of school-based English curriculum development. It is believed that school-based English curriculum development can complement the school curriculum system, promote students’ character development, and plays an important role in raising teachers’ professionalism. School-based English curriculum development holds the basic principles of interestingness, subjectivity, comprehensiveness and sustainability.Chapter Three states the current research status of school-based English curriculum development of D High School in Changchun, based on the research of the school, in the five aspects of curriculum purpose establishment, teaching material development, curriculum setting, class teaching and curriculum evaluation.Chapter Four analyse the influencing factors of school-based English curriculum development using observation method and interview method, including too much pressure for further education, lack of curriculum resources, discompleteness of school management system, limitation of teachers’ abilities and energies, and inadequent evaluation system.Chapter Five discusses the guarantee system of school-based English curriculum development under the background of new curriculum, and the author gives suggestion on the four aspects of creating a new school education management system, establishing a complete evaluation system, transformation of roles of teachers and realizing the characterization of English school-based curriculum.
