At present, portfolio assessment has been widely used by most kindergartens in our country. However there are some problems when implemented it, such as, lack of children’s participation during the whole process, the opportunities for children’s self-reflection and self-assessment are limited etc. This research views the portfolio assessment from children’s perspective, and regards children’s views and opinions as the important basis for assessing portfolio. Parents and teachers will understand more about children when children as the subject of assessing and using the portfolio, and children will also have a clear idea about their own learning journey and achievement.The main research method for this paper is action research and combined with other methods as observation, investigation, interviewing and case analysis etc. Besides, the writer of this paper developed one and half a year practice and research in the kindergarten, and work with a research team to make plans, take actions, reflect and sum up experiences.This paper concluded four principals for portfolio assessment based on children’s perspective through action research: Respect, Development, Cooperation and Individualism. This paper refined three procedures for children participating in building the portfolio: Establish a sense of ownership over portfolio, Join in recording at any time, Make the choices and do the self-assessment. This paper summarized nine categories of portfolio contents for children participating in recording: Artworks, Photos and Videos, Questionnaires and Record Charts, Dialogue, Learning Story, Self-assessment and Mutual-assessment, Family Life, Learning Environment and Big Events. This paper summarized four ways for children using their portfolio: Self-appreciation, Group Celebrations, Individual Communication and the Three-way Conference. This paper analyzed the values for creating and using portfolio on children’s perspective: the values for children, teachers, parents and management. This research can help kindergarten teachers and management know more about children and support children’s development by cooperating with them.
