A Survey On English Teaching Methods In Classes Of Senior High Schools

Since the curriculum reform, domestic scholars and English teachers study English classroom teaching methods in senior high school mainly from the microcosmic aspects. At present, most of the teaching methods are studied from some aspect. It is not enough for the teachers to understand the English teaching methods. In order to improve English teaching, it is necessary to understand the current situation of teaching methods in class, to find out the problems and propose solutions.In this paper, the author selects four high schools in southwest County as the object of study. During the investigation, 65 teacher questionnaires are issued and 62 are valid. 440 student questionnaires are issued and 432 are valid. The author also interviews 20 senior high school English teachers and exchanges the ideas with them. The author talks about the application of teaching methods in English class and the problems encountered. Besides, the author uses the classroom observation to investigate the use of English teaching methods.This study mainly focuses on the following questions: what is the popular teaching methods in English class in senior high school? What do the teachers think of these methods? Which are the more popular teaching methods among the students? The author analyzes the use of English teaching methods in class and the teachers’ and students’ evaluation from four aspects: vocabulary, grammar, reading and writing.Through the investigation, it is found that teachers’ teaching ideas and teaching methods have a great influence on the use of teaching methods. In the schools, the popular teaching methods are the word block teaching method, task based teaching method and product teaching method. Although there are some disadvantages, but they play an important role in English teaching.In this paper, the author hopes to find out the advantages and disadvantages of the teaching methods used in class in senior high school, and to help teachers to solve the problems existing in English teaching, which has theoretical and practical significance.
