The Outline of National Medium and Long-Term Program for Education Reform and Development 2010-2020 points out that the promotion of the innovative talents should be based on the needs of national and social development, follow the law of education and talents growth, deepen educational reform, innovate teaching methods, and explore a variety of cultivation modes for the ultimate purpose of emerging a wealthy of talented and creative people. Chemistry teaching should focus on the continuous research of talents training, which is also the need of national development and teaching reform, as well as the development of students.The chemistry competition has played a positive role in Chinese chemical education since 20 years ago. With the development of such activity, people gradually realize that "chemical Olympics" is not just a simple competition, but a massive, continuous, competitive-centered educational activity with diverse forms, levels and series. Exactly, it should be referred to as the "Chemical Olympic Education", a kind of independent form of teaching which stands alone outside the conventional teaching and the purpose of which is to discover and cultivate chemical talents and simultaneously improve the middle school chemistry teaching quality. High school chemistry education, as one of the science education, is designed to enable students to systematically master the basic knowledge of chemistry and chemical fundamental skills as well as receive good scientific literacy training.Based on the literature study, the author not only summarizes the related theories and practice on cultivating innovative talents, but also combined with his own teaching conditions, carries out the practice of training mothball talents through the chemistry competitions in senior high to explore the methods and approaches to cultivate chemical mothball innovative talents under the mode of the current college entrance examination in Jiangsu Province. The paper employs a questionnaire on the students who took part in competitions and an interview with a part of the university freshmen who used to be competitors. From the above findings, the paper analyzes both short-term and long-term effect of chemical competitions on students’ thinking quality and learning ability, with an emphasis on long-term effect, aims to help people comprehensively understand and evaluate the significances of which chemistry contests and chemical competitions bring to students on their innovation ability and comprehensive quality cultivation, and hopes to provide certain reference on selecting those chemical mothball talents for colleges and universities.
