In recent years, with the reform and development of education, the secondary vocational education has appeared a series of changes that secondary vocational schools have actively explored new education pattern in order to adapt to social needs. Therefore, it is of great urgency to establish a new material system in secondary vocational education. In 2009, Secondary Vocational School Mathematics Syllabus was revised by Ministry of Education and secondary vocational school mathematics material had been revised accordingly. Then subsequently, a series of questions have been raised, such as what’s exactly the difference between the new material and the old material? Whether if the new material adapt to social needs, or whether if the new material conforms to the character of secondary vocational students. By comparative analysis on the new and old secondary vocational school mathematics material, this article not only intends to offer reference opinions for future material revision and provide information to help secondary mathematics teachers for throughout understanding and fair use of the new material, but also hopes to provide beneficial idea for secondary vocational school mathematics education reform and development in China.Firstly, Hubei Province Secondary Vocational School Materials (trial), Mathematics (Part Ⅱ), published by Hubei Science & Technology Press in 2003, and Mathematics Basic Module (Part Ⅱ), published by Higher Education Press in 2009, are selected as the old and new material samples for this article. The Probability and Statistics sections taken from the above mentioned two materials are used as research object. Combined with literature retrieval and comparative analysis in both horizontal perspective and longitudinal perspective, this paper discusses the difference between Probability and Statistics sections in the new and old materials.By comparison with the old material, I find out that the Probability and Statistics section in new material has changed greatly in aspect of content, organizing order, time allotment, mode of content presenting, organization & choice of exercises and demands on students’ learning. Guided by the education reform idea and revised syllabus, the new material aims to promote comprehensive development of students and cultivate professional technicians on the principle of service-aiming and job-orientation. The new material, practicing the idea of student-oriented and combination of teaching and studies, breaks traditional mathematics material system by focusing on fundamental mathematics knowledge and integrating it with related professional knowledge and makes mathematics knowledge a useful tool for acquiring professional knowledge and achieving the integration of mathematics knowledge and professional knowledge.At last, I analysis the characteristic and deficiency of the new material on basis of the conclusion comes out from comparative study between the new and old materials. Additionally, considering about the current mathematics education reform trends, material revising comment and teacher’s professional orientation, I put forward individual proposals in this article.
