Module curriculum is a series of streamlined modules containing interrelated contents, with each course embodying a specific and clear goal. One module is independent of another, but the modules are interrelated in terms of content, thus showing a holistic quality. Every module focuses on a particular section and forms a relatively complete unit. Designed for one common learning goal, different modules can work together to achieve the goal despite their differences. Ever since the concept of module curriculum was put forward, it has been widely exploited in various educational programs.This essay discusses the application of module curriculum in the English teaching in Chinese senior high schools, where modular teaching plays a critical role. All the modules, independent of each other as they are, are closely and logically related, facilitate the achievement of one holistic goal of the English teaching in high school:to enable students to acquire fundamental English language skills and meet students’ different interests and development requirements.Module curriculum is also used by such front-line teachers as Renrong Yi to teach English. Yi combines grammar, vocabulary, and four basic skills (including listening, speaking, reading and writing), and rearranges them into independent but interrelated modules, making the teaching of English basics and language skills systematic, diverse, and intriguing.Based on teaching practice and combining the survey of students and other English teachers, this essay analyzes the problems of the TOEFL training of AP program in our school, which include over-emphasizing reading, covering listening, speaking, reading and writing thus focusing on one and ignoring others, and lacking sufficient exercise aimed at TOEFL.This essay combines the research of the application of modular teaching in TOEFL training by other scholars with the practical teaching experience, and advances the design of the application of module curriculum teaching in TOEFL training of AP program. This essay also designs a half-year experiment to testify the efficiency of this teaching mode. After the experiment, it is found that applying the module curriculum teaching to TOEFL training is a very efficient way to stimulate students to study and improve students’ grades in the test.
