Narrative theory is the most important theory in the study of modern text which is necessary and feasible to be used in novel teaching at middle school. The thesis takes Shijiazhuang Foreign Language School(SFLS) as an example, focuses its research on the novel teaching of Grade 7-9 under the guidance of narrative theories. On the basis of predecessors’ research achievements, the thesis has the following three chapters.Chapter One mainly introduced the novel teaching of Grade 7-9 in SFLS. The thesis takes teaching materials from Hebei textbook Edition, which contains 29 novels. For the students in higher grades, the contents of the novel are broader with high literary value. Besides, the writer conducts a survey on the present teaching status at school and find that teachers try to incorporate the modern education theory, reading theory and literature acceptance theory into their teaching, but the teaching effects couldn’t meet their expectations. And some other problems also need to be noticed. For example, the teaching objects are too simple, teaching contents too fixed, and teaching methods too simplified. Besides, students are too utilitarian and passive when are having novel classes.According to the teaching practice, we believe that it’s imperative for us to guide the Grade 7-9 novel teaching with the narrative theory. In the second chapter, the writer explains what narrative theory is. The writer also explains why it’s possible to guide novel teaching of Grade 7-9 with narrative structure, narrative time and narrative perspective. It’s both the need of text reading and also the need of teaching reform. In the third chapter, the writer analyzes 29 novels from Hebei textbook Edition under the guidance of narrative structure, narrative time and narrative perspective. The writer chooses "The chameleon", “Dad’s flowers withered” and “village opera” as teaching examples, showing new teaching method of Grade 7-9 novel learning guided by narrative theory. There are mainly two advantages of the new teaching method. First, narrative theory makes the plot of the story more stereotyped, and every work can be incorporated into the whole pattern, which is convenient for students to master the plot as well as each character more quickly. Second, in terms of narrative time, it’s not hard to find that novels usually take space order as breakthrough point, and then discover its symbolic meaning. In this way, the topic will be deepened. At last, different persons have different impact on novel narration, so we need to analyze different roles of different persons while we are reading.
