Objective: With the rise of positive psychology thought, gratitude quality is becoming a hot research field of psycho-logy.It is a new trend to apply gratitude research to school education and use group counseling to improve their gratit-ude.This study was designed to investigate the gratitude of sixth grade students and develop a targeted group counseling program. Then choose the low gratitude subjects to take part in the group counseling intervention and analyse the effect of group counseling and give some educational suggestions.Methods: First,the author did the GRAT questionnaire survey on 580 six grade students in Changsha to examine the status of student’ gratitude. Then,according to the group counseling theory and to combine with gratitude concept and connotation, the author made a group counseling program to promote school students’ gratitude. Last,42 students who were with low gratitude were divided into an experimental group and two control group.There is no asignificant difference between three groups. Experimental group accepted a weekly gratitude group guidance.Control group 1 received a weekly game normal activity.Control group 2 did not accept any processing.8 weeks later,we tested the practical effect of the intervention program.Research showed that:(1)Most of sixth grade students of Changsha have high levels of gratitude, but some students still have low levels of gratitude. There were no significant differ-ences on the gender, the source difference of students,the one-child,his mother’s cultural degree. But there are signi-ficant differences on the gender, grade level, his father’s cultural degree.(2)Group members participated in the group counseling improved his gratitude and still maintain a high score in a month.Group counseling can improve the level of sixth grade student’s gratitude.Conclusion: Group counseling can improve the gratitude quality of the sixth grade students.The influence of group counseling has the persistent effect.Appling group counseling to improve gratitude has good promotional value.
