To cultivate students to acquire geographical attainments and skills of using geographical images, are the basic objectives of geographical education. Taking full advantage of geographical images become the most significant feature of geographical education. Geographical images as an of importance part of geographical textbooks, is an major carrier to rely on geographical information, and can describe geographical objects and geographical phenomena. That is the major feature of geography which other disciplines can not compared with. Thus, it is the key of this study to make full use of geographical images to efficient education, cultivate geographical interest and attainment, enhance the skills of geographical images of students, improve records of this discipline.This research summarized different geographical images classifications, and then analyzed and divided textbook geographical images into map, geographical schematic diagram, geographical landscape, geographical chart, comic, remote sensing photo and complex image. Some of them were divided into other images again. Accord ing to the geographical images classification above, this research statistical analyzed the geographical images of PEP senior middle school geography textbook compulsory part, to come up with the feature and distribution of those geographical images. The analyzed results showed that:1.The distribution of all kinds of geographical images distributed in different sections of geography textbooks is asymmetry; 2. Map, geographical schematic diagram, geographical landscape and geographical chart occupied a large proportion, however, comic, remote sensing photo and complex image share less proportion; 3. Lots of geographical images are good carriers to achieve three-dimensional object.This research investigated the teaching status of geographical images about the school which the author have ever practiced by questionnaires and interviews, and noticed these problems from the survey:1.The level of life-oriented and localization about geographical images education is low; 2. Student image reading habit is not good; 3. Some students’ capabilities of image reading, analyzing and drawing are not good; 4.The geographical image contact surface of student is narrow; 5. The ability of making use of what they have learnt is weak.Combined some teaching strategies researched with the problems noticed by the survey of geographical images teaching status, the author put forward some teaching strategies below:1. To cultivate good image reading habit; 2. Making full use of geographical images to stimulate learning interest of students; 3. To promote students to construct new geographical knowledge by comparing relevant geographical images; 4. To promote students to apperceive geographical objects by image localization; 5. Text-image conversion promote students to understand geographical information. At the end, the author hope the strategies proposed above may enrich geographical strategies and have the value of reference.
