Exam-oriented education has been the primary state of the current education system. Teachers and parents regard test scores as important instead of the cultivation of student’s ability. Traditional geography education makes the limitations that geography teachers teach students about the basic knowledge of geography, but in recent years, with the continuous development of geography education reform, the cultivation of student’s geography ability is taken seriously more and more. The Chinese new geographic curriculum suggests that students should learn geographic knowledge that is helpful for daily life and lifelong development, and have a geographic attainment. Geography relates closely with our daily life, and it is necessary to inspire students to learn more practical geographic knowledge through life-oriented teaching. Life-oriented teaching implies that teaching processes shall be close to daily life, and a linkage between geographic concepts and daily life should be presented.The author investigated the present situation of life-oriented teaching of geography through questionnaires on senior high school in Xupu county Hunan province.According to the results of the survey analysis, the author find out some problems existing in the high school geography teaching:( 1) Life-oriented atmosphere is not strong in geography classroom.the student’s participation is not enough;(2)Geographical extracurricular activities and after-school exploring homework are less;(3)Communication of life between teachers and students is absent;(4)Teachers don’t give too much attention on life-oriented material and depend on the textbook and guidance information;(5)Teachers’ professional knowledge and ability quality needs to improve;(6)Teachers don’t have much time and energy to carry out life-oriented teaching on account of school pressure and task and so on.According to the investigation conclusion and analysis, the author put forward some ways and means of implementation of life-oriented geographical teaching in high school:(1)Geography teachers should change teaching idea, pay more attention to student’s life experience, dare to innovate, and create a harmonious relationship between teachers and students;(2)Geography teachers should excavate the life resources in the teaching material and make full use of local resources and the current event and life experience to assist teaching;(3)Life-oriented teaching atmosphere should be created by using the multimedia technology, interaction between teachers and students, activities of discussing life and exploring,and knowledge competition or experimental;(4)The teaching process should reflect life. Life material related to learning content should be collected and investigated before class.Teaching import should reflect life to attract students’ attention. Life situation should be created in the classroom to establish knowledge contact.Geography teachers should organize the social practice activities after class to develop students’ life skills.
